Plan for the Detroit Food Commons
Make the vision a reality...

The Detroit Food Commons is a two-story 31,000 Sq. Ft. community development project spearheaded by DBCFSN and our development partner Development Detroit Inc. The $22 Million project required
multiple funding streams including donations, grants, and loans.
The Detroit People's Food Co-Op, a Black led, community-owned, grocery store will be the anchor tenant in the building, easing the entire first floor. The second floor of the Detroit Food Commons will house
office space for the Detroit Black Community Food Security
Network, four shared use kitchens where culinary artists and
food entrepreneurs will be able to prepare foods in a
licensed environment for retail and wholesale
customers. The 3,000 sq. ft. Mama Imani Humphrey Hall
will host banquets, receptions, community lectures,
meetings, films,performances and other events.
The Detroit Food Commons is expected to open
in the first quarter of 2024.
